Coolant p!ssing out the bottom

Post by Optikuk »

Just went to startup the mr2 and notice steam/smoke coming from the engine. :crybaby:
Lifted the engine compartment and something is sizzling on the exhaust manifold.

Looked under the car and seems to be coolant litterally pouring out the bottom (only seems to leak when engine is on)

I've attached some photos - can't get under the car at the moment so will have a closer look at the weekend.
Is that bit in the photo the water pump? - i think its coming from that point - as you look its coming out on the drivers side underneath...

Coolant is pooling in that area and then going onto the groud - caught a load in the bowl..

Help :)

The part shown is the oil cooler. It has a couple of rubber hoses which can split. (look up hose from hell)
The other likely contendender for driver side is the water pump which is located in the ftont cam belt cover. These don't usually fail suddenly, more usually start leaking gradually and get worse over time.

As Chris says water pump is usually gradual, there's a tell tale on it that drips if the seals start to go on it.
Don't run your engine for any length of time like that or you'll cause damage once you locate and repair the leak you'll need to bleed the cooling system properly as you'll likely have air in the system which will cause problems. Plenty info in Know Your 2 on bleeding the cooling system
Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour
